  • I'm Angie Monson, a portrait photographer located in Salt Lake City, UT. Just a gal trying to make a living while pursuing her dream. I am a mother of three sweet babies that keep me on my toes. I started Simplicity Photography in 2005 and this is my journey, it's all here on this good ol' blog. Hope you enjoy what you see! Pull up a chair and stay a while...

I want you guys to all know the “why” of what I do. I realize that our time here on earth is precious. Sometimes we get so caught up in the everyday pressures of the world and over the past few years I really have come to terms that I do what I do because I LOVE the reason why I do it. I do it because of love and connection. Isn’t that what we all want most in this world? I truly think so. I realize that the why of what I do comes out in my images. I love capturing sweet moments between a mother and daughter or a mutual laugh caught between siblings, or even an eye roll, because THAT is why we are here: to connect and to love. I feel incredibly lucky to capture your love, your family, your heart. Thank you for allowing me to do so.

-Sending my love to you all, Angie Monson

My NEW video is now available! Right now it’s on SALE for $99 and you get my family posing guide as a FREE bonus.

A lot of photographers have asked me how I get tweens and teens to look natural in family photos. It’s TOUGH, trust me, but it’s not impossible to get older kids to relax and enjoy a family session. A lot of it is how you interact with them. I have created a video that shows the difference of how I photograph a family with older kids compared to photographing a family with younger kids. Bottom line, they are just two completely different sessions. Watch me as I teach you tips and tricks with working with different ages!

I cover the following:

  • Camera settings and what lenses I am using.
  • Time of day I am shooting (I photographed the two families back to back)
  • I give examples of games I play or things I say to get people to laugh or relax.
  • Tips on how to work with backlight.
  • Getting dad on board.
  • Working with kids that are high energy.
  • Posing to make everyone look natural and connected.
  • Length: 1 Hour 20 minutes.

Ashley Hegarty - Hey Angie, thanks for this, bought it this morning, I’ve just started my business and shooting lots of families and this felt like you took me under your wing and let me sit in on your sessions, so valuable! Love your work!

Sayulita | NEWELL

I had the best time photographing this lovely family again in one of my favorite places on earth (Sayulita). Julie and I have been friends for several years now and I just adore her and her family. This session was SO crazy behind the scenes with crabs EVERYWHERE and getting pummeled by waves several times, but it’s amazing how their session still turned out so lovely and full of happiness. Love you guys!!

P.S. I am available for worldwide travel. If you are traveling somewhere that you want your family captured just email me!

TCM - Hi, I just discovered this site and I must say: impressed! Very nice photograph. what camera do you use, & do you have any tips for a beginner photographer?
Also, I recently started a blog (, and while I hate to self-advertise, sometimes you have to 😛

There is nothing in this world more important to me than these three. We’ve been in Costa Rica for the past three weeks with my friends Marie & Lynn and all of our children and I am so glad we were able to have our family pictures taken here by Marie.

These images just make me so teary eyed. We have been through so much this past year and even though things are getting easier and we are adapting it’s still such an adjustment being a single mom. These images mean so much more to me knowing that these three have loved and supported me through it all. I just love them so incredibly much and somehow images just make me realize it even more. I am just feeling lucky to have them as my own. They are my constants and they don’t even know how much they are cherished.

Thank you Marie for these incredible images, I love you so much. You are beautiful inside and out and so talented. I’m so lucky to be your friend.

Finding your flow for family sessions can be rather difficult. I have found that to make things run super smoothly is to be ready with a basic plan. 📷

I always start out with the posed photos where everyone is looking at the camera and I am making insane noises and dancing (who doesn’t like watching a middle aged women dance?).

I have my entire flow all spelled out for photographers as well as games I play to get people to relax and act natural in my Family Posing Guide. Link in profile for purchase!
