Seriously.. Thoughts?August 2, 2010 - 2:38 pm

I would love to have the Bag of Tricks Photoshop Actions for $99.00! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Seriously.. Thoughts?August 2, 2010 - 2:39 pm

I “liked” MCP’s Fan Page (does this count since I did this a while ago? I sure hope so)!

Seriously.. Thoughts?August 2, 2010 - 2:41 pm

Photography question I would like to see you answer in a future MCP Blog Guest Post by Angie Monson.

Location Location Location. How do you find/choose great locations to shoot at. What are you looking for? Lighting? Texture? What’s you’re mental list when you’re reviewing a possible new site?

StephanieAugust 2, 2010 - 3:04 pm

I love your blog! I check it religiously! Thanks for posting, I know it’s not always easy to keep it up, but I thoroughly enjoy it. Your work is an inspiration.

Heather LickliterAugust 2, 2010 - 3:32 pm

I want the bag of tricks set too!

Heather LickliterAugust 2, 2010 - 3:33 pm

Heather LickliterAugust 2, 2010 - 3:34 pm

I think I’d like to know what you look for when you look for light. What’s your favorite type of light?

DonelleAugust 2, 2010 - 3:38 pm

I would love to have anything on her site, but if I had to pick it would be the quickie collection and or the bag of tricks

DonelleAugust 2, 2010 - 3:40 pm

the question I would like you to answer on a future Blog Guest Post would be, how do you get everyones eyes in your pictures to look so crystal clear and bright.

EricaAugust 2, 2010 - 3:54 pm

I would love love love to win this!!!!! I haven’t purchased any actions yet because I am brand new to ps, just got cs3… I think I would start with the complete work flow… but they all look great!!!

TikiAugust 2, 2010 - 3:55 pm

I would definitely buy Bag of Tricks – thanks for the chance!

I “liked” MCP on fb!

TikiAugust 2, 2010 - 3:57 pm

Here’s the question I’d love to be answered because I can’t figure it out myself.

All my outside pictures seem to be too blue. I do set my white balance according to whether I’m in the shade, etc. I use a Canon 40D with a 50mm 1.4 lens. I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong.

NadiaAugust 2, 2010 - 4:16 pm

I would go for the All In the Details action set!

JeriAugust 2, 2010 - 4:24 pm

I would love to get the Quickie Collection!

Shayna DeveyAugust 2, 2010 - 4:29 pm

I “like” MCP actions! I would get the bag of tricks. Loooove what it did to your SOOC! I would like to know if you batch process or individually. I do individual processing and would like to speed up the workflow without losing the final result. Thanks!

AmyAugust 2, 2010 - 4:53 pm

I already have bag of trick so I would for sure want the quickie collection!

NadiaAugust 2, 2010 - 4:53 pm

I would love to see you make a post on the way you (personally) achieve the beautiful light in all your photographs. You always manage to catch and create the most dramatic light! Especially in your Taylor & Amanda- Seniors… 2011 shoot! How did ya do it?

AmyAugust 2, 2010 - 4:54 pm

Already “like” MCP on facebook!

AmberAugust 2, 2010 - 5:02 pm

I would like to know more about how you achieve such great lighting in your pictures.

AmyAugust 2, 2010 - 5:05 pm

Your family posing is amazing. I struggle when there are three or more people when mixing kids with adults for the more natural poses. Telling them to just “act natural” probably isn’t the best! Whats your secret Angie!

TonyAugust 2, 2010 - 5:05 pm

I would probably buy the bag of tricks and quickie collection

TonyAugust 2, 2010 - 5:06 pm

Liked the mcp facebook

TonyAugust 2, 2010 - 5:07 pm

Lately I have really loved your later in the evening shoots. The sun looks super amazing. What time in the evening are you usually shooting to achieve this looks?

ShelleyAugust 2, 2010 - 5:10 pm

Fabulous results. It would be a tough choice between the quickie and the bag of tricks : )

KarleeAugust 2, 2010 - 5:23 pm

I would get the bag of tricks.. It would be the perfect addition to my small collection. She has so many fabulous ones to choose from!

KarleeAugust 2, 2010 - 5:25 pm

Do you ever shoot with the inention of not editing the image? Are there any pictres you love that are straight out of camera?
I would love to have a timeless feel to my photos but don’t know where to start…

Jen JenksAugust 2, 2010 - 5:43 pm

I would probably start with the “Bag of Tricks”, it just a good all around use set of actions.

Becky SwartzendruberAugust 2, 2010 - 5:46 pm

Since I am new to the business (but always passionate about it), I would love, check that, NEED Bag o’ Tricks! It’s amazing! I have some of Jody’s other actions, but would love to add this one to my arsenal! I would also love to know, “Did you go to school for this, or did you just get going on your own?” I’m doing it on my own, but contemplating school. Thanks so much for your BEAUTIFUL work!

How do you find your light, or do you create your own?
OR
How do you edit to get your rich color and high contrast?

Tammie HoltAugust 2, 2010 - 7:33 pm

I would like to have Angie answer tons of questions, but if I had to pick one, I would like to know how you get your photos so crisp, clear, and vibrant. They are crystal clear and I just can’t figure it out. Thanks, hope you use that one, I would really love to know. Your work is fabulous.

ErinAugust 2, 2010 - 8:05 pm

Liked it on face book.

ErinAugust 2, 2010 - 8:07 pm

How do you avoid going overboard with the colors? They look bright and vivid, I seem to take it a little too far and make it look unrealistic.

Jenna StubbsAugust 2, 2010 - 8:20 pm

I would definately get Bag of Tricks but of course I’ve been eyeing Quickie Collection and also All in the Details. And oh wait, Magic Skin too. Hopefully in the near future I will have all of them even if I don’t win this awesome giveaway. Thanks for doing this.

Jenna StubbsAugust 2, 2010 - 8:21 pm

I have been “liking” MCP for a while now on FB. Love how the blogposts show up in my feed

Jenna StubbsAugust 2, 2010 - 8:23 pm

I would like to know how you develop an “eye” for great locations. Scouting the light, textures, everything? Can you just drive by somewhere and say “that would make an awesome location?” or does it help to see that location during the great sunlight to REALLY be able to tell if it would work or not?

Jill E.August 2, 2010 - 8:58 pm

most def Bag of Tricks Photoshop Actions i have been pinning over that one.

As for a question you could answer it would be how to would be about locations…. I know that I’m one of many that is interested to know your though process when choosing/reviewing a location for an upcoming shoot. Also, do you go on “No Trespassing” properties? I haven’t dared yet, but there are some fabulous ones out there! Let me know!

Jill E.August 2, 2010 - 9:14 pm

this is so hard because i have read and learned so much great stuff already. i guess how to be professional with out being to “i am working” like at events with guest, especially grandparents who want you to talk and eat.

Photo question:
How do you get your clients to relax? Especially those ages around 6-10 where they have their fake, cheesy smile. My daughter is 7 and I just can’t get her to be natural. But my 4 YO is a pro.

First of all, love the photo. So funny! Twins can have such absolute different personalities! As a mom of twins, I would love to see Jodi edit two pictures: one of each of her twins in a way that would match her own personality!

I am already a fan!

If I could find out one of your secrets it would be how to do your black and whites. I love the coloring of them and so wish I knew the secret recipe for that.

I would for sure pick the bag of tricks, they look awesome!!!!

What do you do if sunset is past a clients bedtime? :)
What specific lighting setup do you have in your studio?
Do you prefer to shoot in open shade or sun?

Thanks!

MCP actions are so amazing. I have been drooling over these packages for months and months. Wish I had about 500.00 to spend on actions. But I would take the 100. Just starting out in photography. Love to see how people see the world.

WhitnyAugust 3, 2010 - 7:14 am

Oops I forgot to put what I would buy. Probably bag of tricks. But I really love the all in the details too

WhitnyAugust 3, 2010 - 7:19 am

I also want to know how the people looks so soft and sweet and clear at the same time. Love the composition of your pictures. You get it all the shot. I study them. Composition seems to be the thing I think about the most. Also the back grounds that I have to work with. Bleck. I need to get out some where.

Alison DudleyAugust 3, 2010 - 7:53 am

I would LOVE the bag of tricks!! Pick me! :)

Alison DudleyAugust 3, 2010 - 8:50 am

my question is about metering. What metering mode do you use and do you over expose a bit? (on purpose) How do you work exposing when say one person is wearing a white shirt and another person a black shirt in the same picture?
I love your style btw!

My question has to do mainly with focusing…do you use a single focus point and re-compose or do you use multi-focus points – I ask this mainly in relation to when you are shooting busy kiddos who are hard to keep still! :)

mandyAugust 4, 2010 - 12:47 pm

my photography questions are more about you than photography…. Do you have a million pictures waiting to be edited (like I do) or are you more organized than I am about getting your photos done? And if so, how do you keep your photos organized to make it easier to go back to and find?

Amy MathewsAugust 4, 2010 - 12:47 pm

I would love to have the bag of tricks action set! :) Very cool

With so many actions to choose from, how do you define your style? Or does it constantly change with all the actions you have to choose from. Should a photographer gravitate to a certain style of actions to help define his/her work or should that style only come from the way photographs are taken?

KellyAugust 4, 2010 - 12:56 pm

I’d love to know some tips on getting those little ones to cooperate for such awesome images. Mine run away and always look away from any bit of reflected light so their eyes are flat as pancakes!

do you have a sliding scale?

sarah: paper + stitchAugust 4, 2010 - 1:15 pm

My question is regarding portraiture. How do you make your subjects feel at ease in front of the camera if they are a bit nervous and jittery?

Jen TownerAugust 4, 2010 - 1:15 pm

Been a liker of MCP AND Simplicity/Angie
Would love the Quickie Collection!!!

Ashley GillettAugust 4, 2010 - 1:16 pm

My photography related questions are:

How do you market – find clients who are willing to seriously invest in photography and truly value your work?

What do you do get the kids looking so cute and natural? how do you handle shy kids?

How do you encourage moms to get their kids to wear layers and “fun” clothing for the shoot?

Crystal DodsonAugust 4, 2010 - 1:16 pm

How do you correct your exposure? Shooting on a brigh day sometimes I blow out highlights and I am able to correct it most of the time, but I am wondering what other’s do for this. I currently use PS CS3. It would also be great information just in case I need it to know how to lighten up shadows in low key portraits.

Crystal DodsonAugust 4, 2010 - 1:17 pm

My question is this–What is your sure fire way to get a giggle out of little ones?

BethAugust 4, 2010 - 1:21 pm

I’ve been lusting after the I Want It All package for well over a year now!! I’m not a professional photographer, so I can’t quite bring myself to buy them. I’ve started saving up and that package will be a special treat I give myself…a $100 gift certificate would be awesome!!! I’ve been a fan of MCP Actions for a while, but if there was a really, really, really like button on facbook, I would click on it! As far as a photography question, my biggest one is: How do you get everyone to cooperate?? I have three children and just to get them in the same general area seems to take major effort.

3rd Post: My question is: In the action set “Complete Workflow Photoshop Actions”, when you use the “take my color away” on persons who have light colored hair and features, why does it not look as “striking” as using it on someone who has dark hair? Is there any instruction you can give me to make this happen? Thanks so much! I love your actions and would love to own them all!!

Jessica SwartoutAugust 4, 2010 - 1:33 pm

I am really interested in finding the best site to host my images for my clients photo gallery. I’m looking for a trusted site, that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, and would love to know if you have any favorites or any to stay away from. :)

Oh also, can I pick two things? haha… I use lightroom a lot, but obviously there are things that must be done in photoshop sometimes. What would you recommend doing first, lightroom edits or photoshop edits?

thanks again for the opportunity!

Mandy SrokaAugust 4, 2010 - 1:34 pm

Photography question: How do you keep customers coming back? What do you do to set yourself apart from other “bargain” or “newbie” photographers in the area who are simply portfolio building?

Jami MayerAugust 4, 2010 - 1:34 pm

Question for Angie……. for someone just getting started- what do you feel would be a good base supply for props and other items to have on hand for photographing children & infants (hats, chairs, etc.) Piece # wise or price wise.
Thanks!

NatashaAugust 4, 2010 - 1:41 pm

I always struggle with finding the right light! It seems I find a couple little spots that are perfect when I am out on a shoot but it is rarely where I am wanting to shoot at the whole time. The eyes I like to be lit, but it isn’t always possible even in post to get that perfect lit look. So I end up using fill flash which makes that little circle of light which gives away that flash was involved. So a tutorial on finding perfect natural light do’s and don’ts would be GREAT!

Lindsey TAugust 4, 2010 - 1:41 pm

I would like to buy the Complete Workflow if I won :)

JenniferAugust 4, 2010 - 1:45 pm

My question would be how do you handle large photo shoots (like 50-100 in a shot), keep everyone in focus, at a location that’s not the best, with awful natural lighting? It’s like everything could all go wrong!

Sarah JPAugust 4, 2010 - 1:46 pm

do a topic on poses esp for a family with several kids. i find 1, 2, and 3 to be fairly easy but 4 and 5 kids gets difficult….

Libby HubscherAugust 4, 2010 - 1:52 pm

How do you compose a portrait within a landscape so that your subjects are the star? What lens do you use? How close would you make your subjects? I just did a shoot with a couple in some awesome settings where I wanted to feature them and their surroundings (for sentimental purposes, but they seemed to get lost in the space a bit and I ended up having to crop. I’d love to be able to do this well, but am at a loss of how to make it happen!

JillAugust 4, 2010 - 1:54 pm

(3rd) I would love to know more about how you light your studio and best placements of lighting – LOVE your work and the effects you get.

Amanda VAugust 4, 2010 - 1:56 pm

I would love to hear about your post processing workflow – do you edit every single picture from a session? How do you balance your time spent on the post processing? Do you have any quick edits that you make to your photos in batch processing to save time?

kimberly triplettAugust 4, 2010 - 1:56 pm

Hi I would love to see a discussion on using alien skins bokeh software in replacement of using actual lens to save on cost. Do you feel that is takes the art out of pphotography or gives it more a graphic design feel.

Debbiegibb1966@gmail.comAugust 4, 2010 - 1:57 pm

I have a relatively new Canon 5d Mark II, and I just don’t get clear pictures with it. I think the autofocus points are kinda spread out, so I would like know more about nailing the focus in a portrait/headshot where the eyes are so important. And also maybe something about manual focusing.

Also, I need to learn to adjust my settings when I am using a flash. How does it affect your normal settings?

AmandaAugust 4, 2010 - 2:08 pm

1st – I would love them all! But probably start with “the bag of tricks”

My question for Angie is have you ever asked permission from property owners to be able to “use” the sight? I am curious about etiquette… What’s the best approach to ranchers or business owners about using their location in my shots.

I really like the softened sepia look where the bride almost looks like she’s glowing, yet it looks natural…I haven’t been able to find an action that gives me the exact effect I’m looking for. Have you come across one like this that you like?

AmandaAugust 4, 2010 - 2:16 pm

LauraAugust 4, 2010 - 2:37 pm

My photography question is: How do you prevent blowing out skin or whites in shirts? And if you do, how do you fix it?

Ellen KAugust 4, 2010 - 2:38 pm

I would love to see more posing ideas for families of 3 or more kids!

Callie BrinkAugust 4, 2010 - 2:38 pm

My question would probably be about post processing. Do you do it all yourself? What is your goal time per picture/ per session? and do you use actions on all or most of your photos? Do you have any tricks to speed up the process? Thanks for the opportunity.

Debbie WibowoAugust 4, 2010 - 2:38 pm

My question: If you are photographing more than 1 person, which focus mode do you use? (single focus, 19 points, etc?) If you are using single focus mode, where do you put your focus on?

amyAugust 4, 2010 - 2:39 pm

How do you direct your shooting sessions with children? Often I’ll have strong-willed kids either not listen to me, throw tantrums, or try to do something else. I always remain patient, but I’m wondering if there’s a better approach than just letting them run the shoot.

Danielle Pecoraro PhotographyAugust 4, 2010 - 2:39 pm

Would LOVE the bag of tricks action. I use some MCP actions already! They are GREAT!

Holly HydeAugust 4, 2010 - 2:39 pm

My photography questions usually relate to the subject being in the shade and the background being backlit. How to balance the correct ISO and shutter speed without getting grain and without having to use a tripod.

stacy aAugust 4, 2010 - 2:44 pm

I’d have to go with the Complete Workflow action – it’s got a nice variety :)

stacy aAugust 4, 2010 - 2:45 pm

Already like MCP on FB!

Brandi LinerAugust 4, 2010 - 2:45 pm

I am looking to open my own studio. I know lighting is a challenge for me with indoor photography. I have a good bit of windows so I will have some natural light – is there a “better” light that can be used with the natural light that won’t make the photos look “fake” straight out the camera?

KirstinAugust 4, 2010 - 2:48 pm

Gosh. There’s so much I want to know… maybe a tutorial on finding the right settings for low light situations.

KirstinAugust 4, 2010 - 2:51 pm

I would like to see some tips for taking photos indoors under low light (mainly concert type settings….specifically our churches conferences which can have low lighting and movement).

How to be creative with angles to make a photo go from drab to eye catching.

Kristi DAugust 4, 2010 - 2:51 pm

My question is what is a really great lens to use for sports – I can’t seem to find that perfect lens!

JessicaAugust 4, 2010 - 3:00 pm

I am wondering what tricks you do to fix shadows or bright highlights on someone’s face in a photo? I photograph children and sometimes it is hard to get them to look in the exact right direction, which means I have been dealing with shadows and highlights that have to be removed. Please help!

Jacqueline CAugust 4, 2010 - 3:01 pm

I would love to know how you adjust your client’s skin in ps.

Nicole HammontreeAugust 4, 2010 - 3:02 pm

Love your stuff. I really want to know where/how you find the locations you shot at. I just moved and have to revamp myself completely. Being in a new state and having to find my way around I am trying to figure things out. But you always have the best locations. Also, how to start or find a good photog group. I was never able to get into one in Arizona. I’d really like to figure that out here. I know how valuable that would be. And I’d have to say bag of tricks. But I’d really like to know which one YOU use most. I’m sure you use them all. But which one would you say makes the MOST difference for your work? I really need to find something to bring eyes out.
If you already LIKE you on FB does that count?

Errin AndrusAugust 4, 2010 - 3:02 pm

I want to know if you tend to under expose or over expose in camera and why?

I want the quickie collection!

MarciAugust 4, 2010 - 3:03 pm

my question is: how do you coax an indecisive client through the ordering process? (besides showing them your ideas for what they should buy?) I can elaborate more on this if needed.

Nicole HammontreeAugust 4, 2010 - 3:04 pm

Not sure if I did that right. I put all my stuff in one comment. So I’ll do three now. I already like you on FB! Does that count? They need a LOVE button :)

I echo many of the others – I would LOVE to see a post on using natural light well – how to find the light, where to position your subject, and showing a before/after with some pictures using actions to improve the photo even more. before/after shots and anything visual in general is always SO helpful with these posts!

Jenn SAugust 4, 2010 - 7:19 pm

I already have the Quickie Collection and use is daily! If I won I would have to choose between, Bag of Tricks, All in the detail, and the complete workflow. Trying to decide would be the hardest!!!

Photography question I would like to see you answer in a future MCP Blog Guest Post by Angie Monson:

How do you find great locations? Do you use the same ones over and over again or are you constantly scouting out new places to shoot?

Amber PriorAugust 4, 2010 - 8:44 pm

I already have Eye Doctor & Magic Skin, so I would totally love to win Bag of Tricks! Thanks for the opportunity! :)

A question I’d love to have addressed is… how do you achieve such amazing lighting? What is your outdoor-lighting set-up? What gear helps you get the results you do?

Thanks, I check your blog almost daily! :) Your work is so inspirational.

Questions…hrmmmm. There are sooo many. I love your work! The always… lighting especially in your alley images, natural posing, just to be a fly on the wall when you work, oh and how do you find the balance of being professional while having mommy duty and being a wife and running a house. Where do you draw the line between work and family life. Those are my many questions. Keep up the amazing work. You inspire me to work harder. :)

JeffreyAugust 4, 2010 - 10:06 pm

2nd entry: I just liked MCP on facebook.
3rd entry: Although PS action sales are pretty mainstream now, some photogs/retouchers still feel that buying actions just a quick fix a lazy way to better photos without actually putting in the time and effort to really learn how to make great photos pre-process and post-process. What is your take on that? Thank you.

NemihaAugust 4, 2010 - 10:07 pm

LoriAugust 6, 2010 - 1:48 pm

I like MCP on FB…and in real life too! ☺

LoriAugust 6, 2010 - 1:54 pm

Questions I would love to know your answers to are:

1. What do you do when everything in your pic looks fine, but your sky looks blown out? Some of my pics look great, but I hate how the sky turned out. I would love to be able to fix it!

2. What do you do if your client seems very standoff-ish while you are photographing them? I’m not talking kids, I’m wondering about grown ups.

(And I am assuming comments are moderated, because none of the two previous ones I posted are here! At least I hope that is the case! ☺)

Sarah MAugust 6, 2010 - 2:18 pm

I have several questions, so I hope that’s ok! :)

One is how do you get nicely illuminated eyes with catchlights without getting squinty eyes….when I position my daughter where I can get nice catchlights she ends up squinting which doesn’t make for a nice photo.

And two is how can you get nice outdoor light while still getting vibrant colors.

And while I’m at it #3 – how do you ensure that your exposure is always perfect so that you can run actions afterwards?
:)

ShellyAugust 6, 2010 - 2:19 pm

I’d like to know more about your workflow at & after a shoot in regards to the number of photos you take and keep… how many shots do you typically take? Do you immediately narrow it down to a specific number? Do you save only the ones that you edit for clients or do you keep some unedited photos just in case you want to play around with them later?

Kori T.August 7, 2010 - 12:54 am

What inspires you in photography? Any tips for a starting up photographer? What lenses do you use the most and the least?

I just love your work. Thanks for inspiring me and sharing the way you finish your photographs. They are beautiful.
